Most people can’t even comprehend the life changing benefits of living a healthy lifestyle. In many cases we know that something is good for us, but we don’t really slow down to take the time and really understand it to the fullest extent.

The shocking results in a recent study at the University of South Carolina might help put in to perspective the seriousness of living a healthy lifestyle.

A team of researchers lead by Dr. Dana King set out on a study of middle aged adults to see what kind of results they could obtain from habits like eating vegetables and walking 30 minutes per day.

The study showed that the adults from ages 45-64 who started eating five or more fruits and vegetables each day, exercising for a minimum of 2.5 hours per week, keeping their weight down and not smoking actually decreased their risk of heart disease by 35 percent and their risk of death by at least 40 percent at the end of a 4 year study.

Now, I don’t know about you but to me that is very inspirational. “The adopters of a healthy lifestyle basically caught up. Within four years, their mortality rate and rate of heart attacks matched the people who had been doing these behaviors all along,” said Dr. Dana King at the Medical University of South Carolina, who led the research. Dr. King added “even if you have not had a healthy lifestyle previously, it’s not too late to adopt those healthy lifestyle habits and gain almost immediate benefits.”

What that tells me is that, it’s NEVER too late to start living healthy. Similar studies have also shown this to be true and have actually stated that an average person can add 7-10 years to their life just by following these suggestions. That’s the “average”. Many believe that you can add 20 years to your life if you start living this lifestyle in your 20’s and 30’s.

So, the four most important things to remember is that…..

1. Eat 5 or more servings of fruits and vegetables every single day. To add additional value to this I would highly recommend organic fruits and vegetables as they are much higher in nutritional value.
2. Moderate exercise for a minimum of 2.5 hours per week.
3. Maintain a healthy weight for your body weight.
4.
Don’t smoke!

Of course I have many other recommendations like avoiding excessive amount of alcohol and staying away from processed sugars that you find in sodas, candies and other sorts of junk foods.!

It took all four — having just three of the healthy habits yielded no heart benefits and a more modest decrease in overall risk of death. Still, said Dr. Nichola Davis at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, “These benefits are on a continuum. The more of the healthy habits that you can adapt, the better. …These are modest changes that they’re talking about.”

I leave you with this, great things are possible in our lives. Most of these things are possible by simply making a choice. Making a choice to be great and obtain greatness in your life. A choice to not accept mediocrity.

The choice is indeed yours.

You have to lose weight and you are not sure of the next step, but you have really been thinking about trying some kind of diet pills. If this is you, you’re not alone. According to a recent study almost 50% of adults (mostly women) consider diet pills for their weight loss solutions. Over 25% of teenage girls are using diet pills to lose weight.

So, do diet pills work?

If you have this idea that diet pills are going to be the quick fix for weight loss, then I have some REALLY bad news for you – not only are diet pills ineffective in losing weight permanently they can also KILL you! It’s important to remember that healthy lifestyle changes are the only safe and proven methods for weight loss.

In case you haven’t really noticed, Americans are getting more and more over weight. Recent statistics from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show that about one-third of the population is overweight.

But, do diet pills work?

So if you are determined to lose some weight, then don’t turn to diet pills. Ignore all the hype that you might see on tv and read in magazines that are plastered with biased articles promoting diets pills. Stop reading magazines…..this is a topic for another time.

You will not feel very good when taking these diet pills and some of the side effects are nothing short of scary and in some cases life threatening.

The Scary Side Effects of most diet pills!

Heart Palpitations

High Blood Pressure

Dizziness

Blurred Vision

Headaches

Insomnia

Anxiety

Depression

DEATH

So, you think that you want to take these diet pills to look more attractive? If you want to take diet pills to look more attractive you better forget it! Dietary fat blockers found in many of these pills can cause gas, diarrhea and uncontrollable bowels. Diet pills can also cause dry skin and hair loss from the vitamin deficiencies. So attractive right????

Hello……Do diet pills work though?

Does it really matter? The truth is that there is many conflicting studies as to whether or not these actually work. That’s a topic for another time. My question to you is, are you willing to put your health at risk for something that at best will make you feel like crap?

So the answer to “do diet pills work”? Who cares!

It should come as no suprise that sometimes we eat when we are stressed. Think about this…………..

How much stress is in your life? Are you stressed multiple times per day? Are you stressed out all day?

How about this, some people say that they don’t eat when they are stressed. Well, that may be even worse. It is common for people to not eat during the day as they deal with the stress of work. By not eating all day, your metabolism slows way down.

Once your metabolism comes to a screaching hault by the end of the day, then you go home and endulge in a nice big dinner. Even though you may have consumed less calories by not eating all day, your body will store more of it as fat because your metabolism is not working to burn it off.

So my take is, not eating from stress and eating when stress can both make you fat!

My recomendation is find a way to release some stress. Exercise is great, yoga, meditation or even just finding a few minutes during the day to just quiet your mind will help. Last but not least……Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff! :-) Some say it’s all small stuff!

Stress may kill you in many different ways………for god’s sake let it go man! :-)

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that frightens us.

We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous?

Actually, who are we not to be?

You are a child of God.

Your playing small does not serve the world.

There’s nothing enlightening about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.

We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.

It’s not just in some of us, it’s in everyone.

And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.

As we are liberated from our own fears, our presence automatically liberates others.”

-Nelson Mandela’s Inaugural Speech
