Just another ANGRY reader!

Ok, here is another angry reader. In fact I think it’s the same guy that was angry because I was posting comics on my site. :)

First of all we know that Anger solves nothing! You are only hurting yourself by being angry!

Second, just so I am clear….You don’t have to read my blog! It’s a choice, just as everything else in life is. I won’t take offense if you don’t want to come back to my site….promise! :)

Here is the angry email that I got!

Dear Mr. Supposed Fitness guru,

I think as a supposed professional in your field that you should be giving more advice on actually how to live healthier and not preaching to your readers with your mumbo jumbo anthony robbins wannna be speaches! How about some hard facts on what one can do to become healthier? Maybe it’s because you don’t have any facts you are only trying to promote yourself as some kind of a professional so that you can make some quick cash from your readers? Perhaps when I revisit your site you will have some advice for me and not some rah rah crap? I hope so!

Now, that just make me laugh to be honest. I don’t take offense to things like this. I do just want to clear up the misconception that you have to read my blog. It’s ok, you don’t have to come back……I don’t take it personally!

Not to defend myself because I don’t need to do that, but I would like to point out that there is plenty of useful information on my site that can help steer you towards better health if you had bothered to read past the first page and maybe have also found that you could have received a free coaching session with me and asked me anything that you wanted. Furthermore, Anthony Robbins is a great inspiration to many people myself included so I take that as a compliment. Perhaps you could use a little Anthony Robbins in your life?

I will leave you with this. I am a dedicated servant of health and fitness for my readers and I make very little money from what I do here on my site. Although some day that will change, I won’t. I will continue to deliver FREE information for all to benefit from, but you don’t have to read it. I hope that you like my site and revisit, but I understand that my way of thinking and advice is not for everyone and that’s ok.

Well, happy reading and I hope I don’t offend anyone else today/ :)

Cheers.

Recently the Island Gazette held a Q & A session with Pat King and here is what we discovered:

Q: What are some key motivational factors that may help people when making New Year’s resolutions concerning their fitness?

A: Well, it really depends on where they are at in their life. The first thing is identifying what specifically they want to change and why in order to set out a plan for the New Year. Some key factors may be, they want to look better, feel better, have more energy, be happier, be more productive, feel less stressed, become more physically and emotionally available for their families or other people who may count on them and most importantly add Years to their already short lives. Perhaps they have health issues. Lack of exercise and poor nutritional habits are the number one contributor to disease in this country and is the second leading cause of disease related deaths. Are those motivational enough? Most disease is preventable and reversible by living a healthier lifestyle. The truth is however that I can give you pages of what might be motivational factors for people, but it really comes down to what’s important to them, how long they want to live and how much they value their own health. Some things to think about huh? My suggestion is to sit down and write a list of the things that are important to you and ask yourself if you can achieve them with poor health, disease and even a premature death.

Q: How can people use these motivations and resolutions as stepping-stones for the remainder of the year?

A: Simple, keep your list of what’s important to you and why (Hopefully your health) next to your bed. Read it before you go to sleep and when you wake up. Remind yourself everyday. Also, when you go to sleep at night ask yourself “did I do my very best today to change my health for the better?” “What can I do tomorrow to be better?” It really depends on what their motivation is. Is it important enough to change the way they are living? If it is then it will happen and if it’s not then they need to find a better reason.

Q: What things should you look for when selecting the right trainer for yourself?

A:

1. Do they hold a certification from a nationally accredited fitness company? Here are a few of the more popular ones, Ace, ACSM, IFPA, NASM, NPTI just to name a few. Ask to see it.
2. Certified in First Aid and CPR. This is important. If something happens to you while training god forbid, you want to know that you are in good hands.
3. Are they setting a good example by living the part?
4. Are they attentive to you and your needs or are they staring around the gym at everything but you? Are they chatting it up with others while they are training clients? Their attention should bee 100% on their clients while training.
5. Someone who always has positive attitude. This is a MUST!
6. Integrity. Do they always do what they say they are going to do? Are they on time and ready for you?
7. Do you feel comfortable with them? Do you like them?
8. Passion. Are they absolutely with out a doubt passionate about what they are doing? They should be.
These are some of the more important things. You are putting your health and well being in their hands, be sure that they have what it takes and are committed to helping you achieve your goals and not just their to collect a paycheck.

Q: What things should you look for when selecting a health club?
A: 1. A Clean environment. Do they take care of their facility? This is a “health” club remember?
2. A knowledgeable and friendly staff is crucial. Do they make you feel welcomed and comfortable?
3. Proper Equipment to help you achieve your individual goals.
That’s it. Everything else is personal preference. You are there to do one thing, get in shape and stay in shape. If you are looking to be pampered and have all the other foo foo stuff then you should join a spa. I would still recommend keeping your health club membership for what it’s for though.

Q: How can the average person afford a trainer?

A: Budget. The money is there. It’s your health, it should be important enough to you to budget a certain amount of money for professional assistance. Professional assistance is one of the 5 main components of health and fitness and is one of the more important components. It can be affordable for everyone. Most gyms offer different programs to meet your needs. If you could only afford one session per week, that’s 10 times better than no sessions. Make it important and make a commitment to your health and you will find the money.

Q: What are the benefits of having a trainer and of joining a health club?

A:
1. Improve Your Overall Fitness. IDEA surveys show the primary reason people hire personal trainers is to get professional assistance to improve cardiovascular health, strength, flexibility, endurance, posture, balance and coordination.

2. Reach or Maintain a Healthy Weight. Body fat reduction, weight reduction or management, body shaping and toning can all be achieved with the aid of a qualified trainer.

3. Learn to Stick to It. Qualified personal trainers can provide motivation for developing a lifestyle that places a high priority on health and activity.

4. Focus on Your Unique Health Concerns. Your trainer can work with your physician, physical therapist or other health care provider to plan a safe, efficient program that will speed your recovery or enable you to reach your health goals.

5. Find the Right Way to Work Out. You will learn the correct way to use equipment, and appropriate form and technique for cardiovascular work and free-weight training.

6. Stop Wasting Time. Get maximum results in minimum time with a program designed specifically for you.

7. Learn New Skills. An individualized program can improve your overall conditioning and develop the specific skills you need.

8. Enhance Your Mind, Body and Spirit. Your trainer may help you uncover new insights about yourself or find potential you didn’t realize you had.

9. Benefit From the Buddy System. What could be better than making a commitment to meet regularly with someone who will provide you with individualized attention and support?

10. Take Charge of Your Program, and Do It Your Way.
With the right trainer, you can find the exercise program that works best for you. Carefully choosing a personal trainer enables you to select the type of guidance that will benefit you. You can get fit and healthy your way and take ultimate responsibility for your own health.

Q: Why should someone choose a small gym over a larger gym?

A: Small gyms are great. They provide a unique environment where people can come in and focus on the task at hand without all the busyness and distractions. It also offers a more intimate setting where people can share there goals and help coach each other to better health and make friends with like minded individuals who share the same goals.
It’s extremely important to have people in your life that want the same things. You will get that needed support in a smaller gym.
