Most people can’t even comprehend the life changing benefits of living a healthy lifestyle. In many cases we know that something is good for us, but we don’t really slow down to take the time and really understand it to the fullest extent.
The shocking results in a recent study at the University of South Carolina might help put in to perspective the seriousness of living a healthy lifestyle.
A team of researchers lead by Dr. Dana King set out on a study of middle aged adults to see what kind of results they could obtain from habits like eating vegetables and walking 30 minutes per day.
The study showed that the adults from ages 45-64 who started eating five or more fruits and vegetables each day, exercising for a minimum of 2.5 hours per week, keeping their weight down and not smoking actually decreased their risk of heart disease by 35 percent and their risk of death by at least 40 percent at the end of a 4 year study.
Now, I don’t know about you but to me that is very inspirational. “The adopters of a healthy lifestyle basically caught up. Within four years, their mortality rate and rate of heart attacks matched the people who had been doing these behaviors all along,” said Dr. Dana King at the Medical University of South Carolina, who led the research. Dr. King added “even if you have not had a healthy lifestyle previously, it’s not too late to adopt those healthy lifestyle habits and gain almost immediate benefits.”
What that tells me is that, it’s NEVER too late to start living healthy. Similar studies have also shown this to be true and have actually stated that an average person can add 7-10 years to their life just by following these suggestions. That’s the “average”. Many believe that you can add 20 years to your life if you start living this lifestyle in your 20’s and 30’s.
So, the four most important things to remember is that…..
1. Eat 5 or more servings of fruits and vegetables every single day. To add additional value to this I would highly recommend organic fruits and vegetables as they are much higher in nutritional value.
2. Moderate exercise for a minimum of 2.5 hours per week.
3. Maintain a healthy weight for your body weight.
4. Don’t smoke!
Of course I have many other recommendations like avoiding excessive amount of alcohol and staying away from processed sugars that you find in sodas, candies and other sorts of junk foods.!
It took all four — having just three of the healthy habits yielded no heart benefits and a more modest decrease in overall risk of death. Still, said Dr. Nichola Davis at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, “These benefits are on a continuum. The more of the healthy habits that you can adapt, the better. …These are modest changes that they’re talking about.”
I leave you with this, great things are possible in our lives. Most of these things are possible by simply making a choice. Making a choice to be great and obtain greatness in your life. A choice to not accept mediocrity.
The choice is indeed yours.

Calcium is a naturally-occurring mineral that is necessary for most organisms to promote healthy tissue growth. In humans, it is needed for both healthy muscles and healthy bones.
Though technically a form of metal, this mineral is one of the major components of the human body and is required to keep the body operating efficiently. Still, scientists say that more than half of Americans do not get enough calcium.
The mineral helps cells operate, allowing the free flow of nutrients within the cell. It is a major component of teeth and bones, which serve as the body?s storage facility for calcium. If the body does not get enough calcium long-term, it will rob calcium from the storage compartments in the bones and lead to osteoporosis.
Calcium is deposited in the bones throughout a lifespan, but more is deposited in the growth years and more is removed during pregnancy and post-menopause in women. Calcium is also necessary for maintaining proper blood flow and a regular heart beat. Too much calcium can lead to kidney stones.
Short-term effects of a calcium deficiency can include muscle-cramps and bone and tooth damage. In the muscles, calcium works with potassium to create the enzymes needed to contract and release the muscle. If either calcium or potassium is lacking in a person?s diet, it can lead to severe muscle cramps.
Pure calcium does not usually occur in nature, but calcium alloys are the fifth most common metal on the planet. It is a fine, gray and somewhat powdery metal. Because it is a naturally-occurring metal, calcium can sometimes be found in water, creating ?deposits? on everything from dishes to bathtubs, An overabundance of calcium in the water is one of he things used to designate ?hard water.?
Because calcium does not naturally occur in a pure state, it is often mixed with other minerals. These minerals can affect the absorption of the mineral as can the presence or lack of other vital nutrients. For example, the body cannot properly use calcium without Vitamin D. Good sources of Vitamin D include sunshine and dairy products.
In addition to its nutrient value, calcium is also used in a number of well-known products including plaster of paris and calcium silicate, a fire-proofing material. In it?s various forms, calcium is also used to separate other metals from salts they bond with including zirconium and uranium.

Herbicides
Herbicides are chemicals used to kill weeds and other unwanted plants. They are commonly used in gardening and other elements of agriculture. There are two types of herbicides. Specific herbicides are designed to kill specific types of plants while leaving the other plants in the area unharmed. Non-specific herbicides kill all the types of plants they come into contact with.
While herbicides can be very useful in eliminating unwanted plants you need to be careful when using them. Only use them as directed. Never apply more than the recommended amount on the plants. Use protective gloves while working with herbicides and wash your hands when you are done. If the herbicide comes into contact with your skin, immediately rinse the area with warm water and soap. Make sure you properly store unused herbicides out of the reach of children and pets.
Herbicide use is controversial. They are very useful in gardening and agriculture to eliminate unwanted plant life. The chemicals in herbicides can cause animals to become ill or die. The chemicals also pollute water supplies including rivers and streams. Herbicides can also cause health issues including rashes, illness, and death in rare cases from inhaling herbicides. Birds are often affected by the effects of herbicides.
Over time, plants build up a tolerance to herbicides. This means that either you will have to live with those unwanted plants or use a herbicide that is even stronger. The government has banned the use of some herbicides due to the negative effects they have on the environment. The impact of these herbicides is just too high to justify their use.
A safer alternative is to use an organic herbicide. They are more expensive than regular herbicides, but they are much better for the environment. The Organic Consumers Association is a group of advocates against herbicides. They continue to lobby for safer products on the market.
The use of herbicides for removing unwanted plants is very popular. However, it is important to evaluate the harm against the good this type of product offers. If you only have a small amount of plants to remove, consider doing it by hand rather than using a herbicide. If you do choose to use one, make sure you follow the directions and use gloves. Always store the product in a safe place because it can be harmful to children and pets.

Place each of the herbs into a pan and simmer for ? hour. Strain the herbs and add the honey or corn syrup for taste. Drink a few cups for a pain free day.
There are herbal remedies available for most any ailment you can think of. You can purchase books on home remedies or research them on the internet. Herbs to make these remedies can be purchased at health food stores or on the internet. It is a good idea to only use one herbal remedy at a time so you can find out the effect it has on you.
